The councilor for health, Carlo Doria, replies to the accusations of the last few days regarding children forced to remain attached to the venous catheter due to lack of anesthesiologists and ensures the full protection of small oncological patients at Microcitemico.

The latest attack came from the group leader of the Progressives in the Regional Council Francesco Agus: «Today the councilor – explains Agus – convened a summit to understand who are responsible for the organizational chaos that has brought the Microcitemico hospital to its knees in recent years of Cagliari. The meeting is useless. To understand whose fault it is, a mirror is enough».

The meeting was held, Doria confirms, with the general director of Arnas Brotzu, Agnese Foddis, the general director of ASL 8, Marcello Tidore, the general director of the Department of Health, Francesca Piras, both health directors of the two companies, Raimondo Pinna and Roberto Massazza, as well as other Arnas top management.

But the problem of catheters, says Doria, does not exist.

«Specifically - explains the councilor - the issue relating to the statements made in recent days regarding the impossibility of removing the central venous catheters from small patients undergoing chemotherapy related to the lack of trained anesthesiological figures was addressed. It is appropriate to point out that the aforementioned declarations were issued under the direct responsibility of the authors themselves, which is why these offices have already opened an internal investigation to identify those responsible, since these declarations damage the corporate image as they do not correspond to the truth , also generating panic among patients and their families. It is useful to underline that, to date, every requested procedure ranging from simple clinical consultancy to a more or less invasive surgical procedure needs to be traced by the company computer system due to the correlated medico-legal implications. Taking advantage of the computer data of the anesthesiological consultancy requests relating to the removal of the central venous catheters, we were able to ascertain that the last requests relating to four small patients were made on 20.06.2023 and completed the following week in a scheduled elective regime".

" It is therefore surprising - continues Doria - how a topic of this kind could have become a "case" paid attention to by the regional press organs, generating discredit to the detriment of the hospital administration and towards health professionals, also causing an unjustified alarm in the population i whose effects will be evaluated in the appropriate forums. Among other things, today's meeting made it possible to better clarify the relationship between the two companies (ASL 8 and ARNAS) also aimed at planning continuous training in pediatric anesthesia and resuscitation techniques, also facilitating the path of these little ones patients by abolishing some bureaucratic steps to facilitate faster management by anesthesiologists . This Department considers the right to criticize as fundamental, the essential fulcrum of the relations that exist between the various institutions, the press and citizens: however, any false statement, capable of creating alarmism, completely detached from reality and which, as already anticipated in this note, it will be subject to appropriate verification ", concludes councilor Doria.
