La media è di 70-80 interventi al giorno: i pompieri entrano nelle case assieme ai proprietari, tutto viene fatto nel tempo più breve possibile. Nelle abitazioni che si trovano a a 50-70 metri dal fronte della frana non vengono fatti recuperi. "E' troppo pericoloso anche per gli operatori", dice Francesco Turco, funzionario tecnico dei vigili del fuoco di Caltanissetta. "Le persone chiedono di potere prendere le cose più care che hanno, sono momenti intensi anche per noi - racconta il funzionario - Abbiamo recuperato cani, gatti, pappagalli. Molti hanno la necessità di prendere indumenti, ma anche oggetti per loro preziosi da un punto di vista affettivo come quadri, fotografie di famiglia". Sono 24 gli operatori dei vigili del fuoco impegnati nei recuperi, il mezzo dove si recano gli sfollati con l'autorizzazione a potere prendere i propri oggetti personali nelle case sgomberate si trova a ridosso di una delle zone rosse.
