The 14 Nigerians arrested in Sassari at the end of May in the State Police raid remain in prison. The Cagliari Court of Appeal has rejected the lawyers' requests for mitigation of the sentence .
Of the 14, only one remained in Bancali; the others were transferred to various prisons across the country, to high-security units. Two months ago, a raid by police officers in the historic center of Sassari, in collaboration with other police stations across Italy, led to the arrest of 30 people nationwide on charges including mafia-style criminal association and drug trafficking .
They are all suspected of having been members of a mafia organization, the Supreme Viking Confraternity, dedicated to the trafficking of heroin and cocaine between Sassari, Europe, and Africa . The lawyers of the suspects are Giuseppe Onorato, Francesco Sasso, Emiliano Alfonso, Elisabetta Udassi, and Carlo Pinna Parpaglia.
