The battle has been won: after the municipal administration fought against the disproportionate increases in the price of propane gas distributed in Sarroch by Eni Live, the rates have been significantly reduced . At the public meeting organized by the Municipality in the Coroneo Hall of the Municipal Library, Mayor Angelo Dessì explained the situation to the citizens: the most important news is that the cost of fuel per cubic meter, increased by the distribution company last April without any prior communication, will go from €2.37 to €0.30 .
Those who have already paid their significantly increased bills will have the option of a chargeback on future bills or a refund . This is also good news for those who had decided to terminate their contract with Eni Live—a mere seven users, in fact—who will be able to reconnect to the network at no cost. In short, this is a major victory for the city administration, which worked together without abandoning the boundaries between majority and opposition.
"We won this battle together," says Mayor Angelo Dessì , "because without the citizens' support and the commitment of all administrators, we would not have been able to obtain a fair price. Starting with the April bills, Eni Live applied a price increase per cubic meter ten times higher than the previous one . For example, the Municipality received a bill for €31,000 for the two-month period January-February, even more than the amount paid for the entire 2024 period. From the beginning, Eni explained to us that the increases were linked to investments made in Sarroch to replace meters, but the numbers didn't add up, because for the 240,000 cubic meters of propane air consumed by residents and businesses, the revenues would have more than covered the approximately €300,000 spent. The decisive meeting with the company's top management took place at Eni's national headquarters in Rome: there will be no more bills with astronomical figures."
Massimiliano Salis, leader of the "Noi al Centro Progressisti" group , congratulated the mayor on the result achieved: "Over the past few months, he has represented us and updated us on what was happening. We've fought similar battles in Sarroch before. I don't believe that if citizens and administrators hadn't raised their voices, someone in the company would have woken up sooner or later and acknowledged their mistake." Mirko Spiga, leader of the "Noi per Sarroch" group , added: "Certain battles aren't politically motivated and must be fought together. Thanks to this result, citizens and businesses will once again pay a fair price."
