A heart attack on the beach, first aid from a lifeguard, resuscitation by 118 emergency workers, the helicopter intervention, and flight to Brotzu. With the patient alive, thanks to a successful emergency response chain.
The near-tragedy began around 3:30 PM on the Abamar beach in Santa Margherita di Pula. A seventy-year-old man on the beach went into cardiac arrest. The young man supervising the safety of swimmers was the first to respond, performing preliminary CPR while the emergency number was called.
An ambulance from the summer station managed by Soccorso Uta arrived on the scene: the operators loaded the patient onto a stretcher and transferred him, by hand, to the vehicle, then reached the area where the Areus helicopter had landed. The aircraft took off for Brotzu, with the recovering seventy-year-old man destined for catheterization. He is now better but under observation.
