The first two hybrid trains that will run on the tracks in Sardinia have been delivered . Initially on the Cagliari-Oristano and Cagliari-Iglesias-Carbonia lines, subsequently on the entire island network (there will be 12 in all).

The "Blus" hybrids were designed and built by Hitachi Rail, and presented today at platform 8 of Cagliari Station by Alessio Mereu, Councilor for Mobility of the Municipality of Cagliari, Sabrina De Filippis, Trenitalia Regional Business Director, and Antonio Moro, Councilor regional transport. Also present were Vincenzo Pullara, director of Trenitalia Regional Management of Sardinia, and Gabriella Massidda, general secretary of the Region.

With dual power supply - electric and diesel - the trains are fully compatible with the Sardinian network because they can be used both on non-electrified lines and on those soon to be electrified.

«The regional revolution continues unabated in Sardinia - said Sabrina De Filippis - The Blues are innovative trains that significantly improve the travel experience and daily mobility for the benefit of Sardinian citizens and the many tourists on the island, without forget the relevant benefits for the environment».

The Blues has 300 seats, 8 places for bikes and is fully accessible for people with reduced mobility . Equipped with a video surveillance system, an LCD monitor capable of providing real-time information to travellers, it has an air conditioning system which is automatically adjusted based on the number of people on board.

It also makes it possible to reduce fuel consumption and ensures a significant reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional diesel trains thanks also to the use of batteries when entering and exiting stations.
