The trial involving a doctor, Antonio Vincenzo Piglioni, and his secretary and spouse, Loredana Anna Derudas, concluded yesterday in court in Sassari.

According to the charges, the two, from 2015 to 2016 in Porto Torres and Sassari, allegedly acted in concert, facing charges of fraud in public supplies, unauthorized practice of medicine, ideological falsehood committed by a public official, and disruption of a public service.

Specifically, she allegedly wrote medical prescriptions, thus practicing medicine illegally , or medical certificates and specialist visit prescriptions, the indictment states, "contrary to the truth, certifying the clinical assessments of the case by Dr. Piglioni and their drafting by the aforementioned doctor." Derudas also allegedly issued the certificates independently, without having the necessary expertise.

Another section discusses the closure of the clinic over the course of several days, without providing replacements. Judge Monia Adami acquitted both men of all these charges because the facts were not proven.

He was also acquitted on one charge involving Piglioni alone, alleging aggravated fraud, because the doctor allegedly told the Sassari Local Health Authority that he had "performed medical tests that were not actually performed, thus misleading the public body."

The doctor was finally sentenced to one year and one month of suspended prison for having, between January and September 2015, declared that he had performed services that were not actually performed "in order to obtain reimbursement."

He was also convicted for "creating false documents, consisting of medical certificates attesting to a non-existent pathology, drawn up without a medical examination, as well as a certificate for sports purposes without having examined the patient."

The woman was represented by lawyer Federica Chironi, while the doctor was assisted by lawyer Gabriele Satta.
