The autopsy on the body of Francesco Cidu, the 66-year-old farmer killed with two rifle shots on Tuesday evening in his sheepfold in the countryside of Gavoi, in the Nuoro area, has been postponed.

The exam should have been carried out today at the San Martino hospital in Oristano but was postponed until Saturday morning due to organizational problems.

The medical examiner Roberto Demontis will have to precisely establish the time of death and the dynamics of the crime.

There is no doubt that Cidu's death dates back to the morning of December 19th when, like every day, he arrived in his fold. His car was parked in front of the gate, which he was about to open, when he was hit by a gunshot in the side and ended up shortly after, once on the ground, with another gunshot fired at point blank range against his head which made him unrecognizable .

The crime threw the country into despair which had left behind the aftermath of the feminicide of Dina Dore which occurred in March 2008 but in recent months several arson attacks had occurred in Gavoi.

The Carabinieri of the Nuoro Investigative Unit, coordinated by prosecutor Andrea Ghironi, do not exclude connections between the criminal events even if the investigations do not leave out any leads.

Starting with Cidu's past. On 20 December 2022 the man was acquitted, together with his son Mauro, of the charge of having slaughtered lambs and set fire to a company in Lodine .
