A violent head-on collision between a van and a truck in Olbia leaves one dead.

A fatal accident occurred this morning at the entrance to Olbia , near the industrial area. A van and a semi-trailer were involved.

The van's driver, Roberto Serra , 61, from Olbia, died in the crash.
For reasons still under investigation, the two vehicles violently collided. The impact was particularly severe, with the van's cabin suffering extensive damage, becoming wedged against the side of the heavy vehicle.

Firefighters arrived on the scene using shears and hydraulic spreaders to cut through the van's twisted bodywork and free the driver, who was trapped inside.

Despite the emergency medical services and desperate attempts at resuscitation by 118 medical personnel, who also intervened with the assistance of the air ambulance, unfortunately there was nothing that could be done for Serra.

Carabinieri and local police were also present at the scene of the accident to conduct investigations necessary to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident and to manage the traffic, which was severely slowed and closed to allow for rescue operations and the subsequent removal of the injured vehicles.
