Civil motorization of Sassari "in total chaos ", with "the offices that are in an extremely critical condition due to the serious shortage of personnel ": these are the words of the Councilor for Transport Antonio Moro , who while awaiting the transfer of powers from the Ministry of Infrastructure to the Region, to limit the inconvenience and considerable delays to which "Sardinian citizens and above all economic operators are subject" announced "the hiring of 7-8 technical engineers and another 20 administrative figures , to be drawn possibly also from rankings of competitions opened in the various local authorities of the region».

In a letter sent to the Ministry of Infrastructures, Moro also requested an urgent meeting with the Territorial General Directorate of the Centre.

"The main criticality encountered in the last three years, made even more evident by the Covid emergency - explains Moro - concerns the booking times for the inspections of heavy vehicles ": with the beginning of 2023, the "18 months of waiting" are even exceeded .

«The Civil Motorization of Sassari - recalls the councilor - has a sphere of competence that extends over the whole of northern Sardinia, almost a third of the regional territory, with a catchment area of about 500,000 inhabitants . Within the province of Sassari there are numerous passenger and goods haulage companies, some of which are large, 100 workshops authorized to carry out overhauls of vehicles up to 3.5 tons, about 50 driving schools, as many automotive consultancy firms and a few dozen of vehicle bodybuilders. The current staff of the Section consists of 17 employees in service, including 10 examiners (4 newly qualified), 4 of whom are also technical operators (one will retire next July)».

The operational activity of the office, says Moro, "is carried out for the most part off-site, at driving schools and workshops equipped for testing and overhauling heavy vehicles, scattered throughout the province, with greater concentration around to the inhabited centers of Sassari and Olbia: these activities are carried out almost exclusively in extraordinary hours, with the use of the officials' own car, and charges borne by private individuals ». Furthermore, "many operators in the sector (driving schools, road haulage companies, inspection centres) are based in Gallura, at a considerable distance from the office headquarters, with consequent travel difficulties for officials authorized to carry out examinations and technical operations" .
