The inauguration session of the new Nuoro City Council was initially surprising. The newly elected mayor Emiliano Fenu swore in front of the assembly , but the session had a thrill: some of the councilors proclaimed elected appear to have certain, liquid and collectible debts towards the administration , as emerged during the meeting. Small sums.

The Mayor's Oath

Fenu took the oath, speaking of “a very important occasion for the city,” thus officially opening the new council.

The knot of incompatibilities

During the session, a delicate issue emerged: according to the City Secretary, some councilors have pending charges with the Authority. These are not generic debt positions, but certain, liquid and collectible debts, such as tax bills, which could constitute situations of incompatibility with the office.

However, there was no talk of immediate dismissal, but of a validation of the election with the possibility that any disputes would lead the councilors to regularize their position within the time limits established by law.

Councilor Pierluigi Saiu (SiAmo Nuoro) called the situation “truly embarrassing” and said that “it is the first time that it has been reported that some councilors are in arrears with the Authority. This requires clarity and responsibility”.

Francesco Guccini (Uniti per Fenu) told his story with transparency: “I had to pay a couple of fines that I didn’t know were lying in the drawer”, alluding to the fact that these situations are not always known to those who experience them.

Councilor Lisetta Bidoni reported that “a list of potentially incompatible situations has arrived”, while the Secretary specified that “it is the Authority's duty to contest individual cases if necessary”, recalling that “the opinion expressed for validation is in any case favorable”.

Proclamation and election of the Prime Minister

In the end, the proclamation of the City Council was voted unanimously.

The election of the President of the City Council then proceeded, with the nomination of Elia Carai (PD), elected with 19 votes in favor and 6 blank ballots. Carai obtained two more votes than the majority, which would have come from Giuseppe Luigi Cucca and Antonello.

The words of Giuseppe Luigi Cucca

In his speech, Cucca underlined: "The Presidency of the Council belongs to the majority, but the president must belong to everyone. Voting for him with conviction is an act of responsibility: we need a president who also guarantees the opposition to be able to exercise its role in a firm and rigid way".

Next steps

After an interruption, we are now waiting for the formalization of the municipal council, a crucial step for the effective start of the administrative activity.

The new administration therefore starts with enthusiasm
