Few officers and structural problems: thus the Nuoro prison becomes a case . This morning the Committee for public order and safety was convened by the prefect Giancarlo Dionisi inside Badu 'e Carros to discuss the problems reported by the prison officers' unions in recent weeks. And the emergency dossiers will now have a fast track to reach the table of the Ministry of Justice.

Also present at the meeting was the director of the prison, Patrizia Incollu. Among the topics on the agenda are the shortage of prison staff (there are currently only 60 officers on duty) and the structural gaps in the building which requires renovation. Critical issues which, last February, led to the escape of the Gargano mafia boss Marco Raduano , who is still at large. During the meeting, the massive presence of organized crime and mafia detainees and the possibility of requesting transfers were also discussed.

«In the next few days I will act as spokesperson for these requests with the Ministry of Justice - explained the prefect - But, in agreement with the police and the prosecutor's office, we will strengthen the information and investigative activity with the establishment of a task force coordinated by the Police Commissioner of Nuoro, by colleagues from the Army and the Penitentiary Police and coordination by the Nuoro prosecutor's office and the Cagliari district anti-mafia directorate".

During the meeting, the issues related to the (small) number of prison officers were explored in depth as well as the structural problems of the building, which requires serious renovation. «In the prison, a rotation of inmates from organized crime and mafia is also necessary», explains the prefect, underlining the danger of mafia infiltration in Barbagia «linked to the presence of relatives who become permanent in the area to the point of fueling possible connections with Sardinian crime».
