Mourning in the Lussurgese community: former mayor Giampaolo Mura has passed away at the age of 81. He suffered a sudden illness; he was rushed to Brotzu Hospital on Thursday evening, but the delicate surgery he underwent proved unsuccessful.
He passed away on a sunny August evening, and the entire community mourns the former mayor, the longest-serving in history . He received his cultural education and developed a deep civic conscience at the Popular Culture Center with Maestro Salis, then led the town between 1980 and 1995 for three terms , bringing fundamental changes to Lussurgese society, preparing it for the challenges of the new millennium.
In the early 1980s, he defended the municipal prerogatives in the Badde Urbara telecommunications area from the arrogant demands of some radio and television entrepreneurs, and then from the Italian Ministry of Defense, which wanted to install a radar there. These were memorable battles for the Municipality, which reaffirmed its jurisdiction over its territory . In 1983 , he built the Matteu Campullu aqueduct, a strategic infrastructure that has never failed to provide the population with water . In 1988, his other fundamental project was completed: the care and assistance center for the elderly and vulnerable , a center of excellence and consolidated from the welfare, social, and employment perspectives.
We will remember his pragmatism and his cool, concrete approach. The people of Lussurgetti and the former mayors who succeeded him join in their condolences with the family. A final Mass will be celebrated in the Church of Don Bosco, celebrated by Father Giancarlo Norio, tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, August 23rd.
