Toxicological tests on blood and urine samples taken from the 34-year-old who on October 13, on the provincial road connecting Olmedo and Alghero, hit the car of Carabiniere Pietro Mastino, killing him, will be carried out in an institute on the Peninsula.
This morning the prosecutor, Angelo Beccu, assigned the task of carrying out the tests on the blood and urine test tubes to the expert of the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Sassari, Claudia Trignano, and the same professional has requested authorization for the biological samples to be sent to a center on the Peninsula equipped with instruments more suitable for the purpose. The final report with the results of the analyses will be filed within 60 days.
The Prosecutor's Office thus wants to strengthen its accusation against the 34-year-old who hit Mastino's car: from the checks carried out immediately after the accident , he tested positive for alcohol, with a blood alcohol level four times higher than the legal limit, and for cocaine. The man was arrested, then released, and is being investigated for road homicide. After being hospitalized for two weeks at the Santissima Annunziata in Sassari, for multiple fractures and a lung injury suffered in the collision, the 34-year-old was discharged and returned home.
The Prosecutor's Office has also ordered further investigations into the dynamics of the accident: since there is no doubt that the Fiat Panda driven by the 34-year-old invaded the opposite lane and crashed into Mastino's Seat Ibiza, the prosecutor in particular has asked to verify the speed of the driver's car, estimated at 125 km/h from initial findings by the traffic police.
