They didn't knock, not even this time. As often happens, in this land of conquest, they land in the heart of the island with anemometer and compass, brazenness and impetuosity. For them the landscape is an annoying frill, they consider it stuff from the Middle Ages, in front of the billions of euros they think they can collect from wind turbines. The company is covered behind an anonymous acronym: «Scs 15 srl».

The Lady of the Wind

The heart of Sarcidano and Barbagia di Seulo reduced to the level of a wind "code", one of many devised by an anonymous "lady of the wind" from Monopoli, that of Bari, to devastate one of the most exclusive stages in Sardinia, that of the large lake, Flumendosa. Getting there, in the tortuous and distant heart of the island, is not a task to be undertaken lightly, the route is a serpentine that after the Duchy of Mandas climbs for sixty kilometers of hairpin bends and breathtaking landscapes, forests and lush pastures. Yet, as if nothing had happened, from the Adriatic shore of extreme Puglia, the lords of the coded wind power company were happy to burst onto the stage of Flumendosa with the bravado of those who don't care about landscapes and territories, about municipalities and populations. For them, the sensitivity of local communities for the common good of the landscape is a useless waste of time, so much so, thanks to the Draghi and company decrees, it is enough for them to declare those three-armed monsters of public interest enough to obtain expropriations and preferential lanes.

Explicit mural

They didn't understand it even with that mural in large letters, as synthetic as it is effective, "carved" on stone in the road embankment at the entrance to the natural compendium. Three words that should have made him understand that he shouldn't expect red carpets: «Resistance against wind power». Instead, nothing. A few days ago the Ministry of the Environment made public the wind attack, planned in Puglia, yet another, destined to hit the heart of Sardinia. Tight deadlines also for technical oppositions, to be presented by March 23rd, the deadline to "read the life" of designers and masters of the wind, creators of a project capable of devastating one of the most exclusive areas of the hydrographic system of Sardinia, that of the great Flumendosa. Leading the Apulian operation in the land of Barbagia, that of Seulo, is Maria Celeste, surname Celeste, a lady who has as many as forty companies under her belt, all with an alphanumeric code, synonymous with a corporate chessboard dedicated to the multiplication of wind power around for Sardinia and beyond. It is she who holds 95 percent of the holding «Scs Innovations Srl», owner of 100 percent (10 thousand euros) of the company, «Scs 15», declared fiscally inactive, which has decided to sell off the Flumendosa promontory. His "poor" partner is Carlo Sisto with 500 euros of capital, of which only 125 have been paid. The sole director, both of the leader and of the company dedicated to Sardinian wind power, is Cosimo Sisto. It is he who affixed the "approved" stamp to the «Esterzili Wind» project, where the term "approved" stands for the green light for the paper presentation to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security. The devastating summary of the project is all in the title: «Electricity production plant from wind sources consisting of 22 wind turbines with input power equal to 136.84 megawatts with relative connection to the electricity grid, located in the municipalities of Esterzili, Escalaplano and Come on." Not just any territory. They write it themselves, probably without realizing the grandeur of the places described: «The area is inserted between the hills of Sarcidano and the heels of Barbagia di Seulo, it is a land of majestic archaeological sites, large lakes and centuries-old woods crossed from Flumendosa. It is distinguished by a great agricultural vocation and an important pastoral heritage that supports the entire economy." It would have been enough to read what they wrote, if they had been aware, to understand that in that territory full of environmental and landscape "emergencies" it would have been simply crazy to hypothesize a plan to stick as many as 22 skyscrapers of steel, as high as 66 floors, equal to 199.50 meters. If one reads the report that accompanies the wind project, one understands that only "unknown people" could have hypothesized such an affront. They write: «The Sarcidano is a varied territory almost in the center of the island which together with the Barbagia di Seulo constitutes the obligatory route that geographically marks the transition from the flat and agricultural regions of Campidano to the mountainous spurs and pastoral areas of the Gennargentu massif. With the Barbagia di Seulo you enter the landscape of the Tacchi or Tonneri, limestone formations on the western and southern slopes of the Gennargentu, which borders towards Ogliastra, the result of the fragmentation of the original plateau, divided by erosion over millions of years from the various watercourses". And they, the people of Puglia, despite the fact that they have recited that landscape freely among the documents, what do they do? They present themselves without firing a shot to the Ministry of the Environment to impose a wind forest in the heart of Sardinia with the "profound" justification contained in the meanders of thousands of papers according to which no one lives in that territory and practically not a soul passes through it .

Zero impact for them

Indeed, they even go so far as to write that the impact on the landscape is practically zero. The statement contained in the landscape report is textbook, perhaps the boldest in the speculative history of Sardinia: «With respect to the changes in the perception of the landscape induced by the creation of technological systems, it is observed that these are barely perceptible both due to the local morphologies which reduce the intervisibility is above all due to the difficult accessibility of the areas which severely limits their use and therefore the landscape receptors. In this sense, it is believed that technological systems determine a slight perceptive impact, reversible in the very long term, with long term duration, extremely rare frequency (in relation to the absence of landscape receptors and difficulties in accessing the areas) and negligible scope".

Nobody goes there anyway

Therefore, according to these gentlemen, the "extremely rare frequency" of the use of those areas, together with the "difficulties of access" would legitimize the wind attack without problems. Those impact simulations contained in the intervisibility document would be enough to realize that in the entire area of the "Flumendosa hydrographic park" the landscape would be literally devastated. Added to this is a further element: four other equally devastating wind farms have already been presented on that naturalistic compendium. The sum of those projects, including the one from Puglia just presented, leads to 74 altarpieces to be placed on that one-of-a-kind proscenium. The gentlemen who came from Puglia are only the latest compared to other giants who have already deposited their assault plans on the proscenium of the lake in recent months, from Saras to the German BayWa, up to the wind turbine giant, Vestas Wind Systems. However, the people of Puglia are not worried. The conclusion they draw is disarming: «Therefore, we can rightly conclude that the cumulative impact generated on the portion of territory is low». In other words: in other people's homes we do what we want anyway.
