A few hours after the dissolution of the Vote yesterday in Sassari, and concluded in Faradda, this evening the traditional procession with the statue of the Virgin was held through the streets of the city.

Monsignor Francesco Soddu, a native of Chiaramonti and the current bishop of Terni-Amelia, officiated the mass in the cathedral before the procession began. The high prelate served as the cathedral's parish priest for 15 years, as he recalled at the end of the ceremony.

Recalling a biblical passage about David, Soddu said that "our trust in God must be total." He then wished "Happy 16 years" to the crowd that filled the square in front of the church, along with the guilds of the 13 guilds.

Monsignor Francesco Soddu is considered one of the possible candidates for the vacant office of archbishop of the diocese of Sassari.
