The community of Ittiri celebrates a new centenary: Maria Maddalena Sias blew out one hundred candles yesterday. Born on August 14, 1925, in an Italy still bearing the scars of the First World War, Mrs. Maddalena navigated every era of the twentieth century with humility and strength. Married to her beloved Sebastiano, they raised four children together: Piero, Vincenzina, Maria, and Giovanna. A large family, raised with little but with everything that truly mattered.
Between harvesting olives and baking bread in her home oven, she nurtured her children with the silent example of someone who knows how to love without the need for long speeches. Widowed too young, Maria Maddalena never let grief break her: with dignity and courage, she continued to be a mother, a father, and a role model. To her grandchildren, she was, and still is, a second mother: she watched them grow, cared for them, cuddled them, nourished them, and continues to be a tender and constant presence for them today.
On her 100th birthday, her family wanted to celebrate her with hearts full of gratitude. For all she has done, for all she is. A silent yet powerful example of what it means to be a mother, a grandmother, a woman. The municipal administration, led by Mayor Antonio Sau, along with all the citizens of Ittiri, joined in the celebrations for her 100th birthday.
