Alghero, the tower of San Giacomo becomes a veterinary clinic: two turtles freed

Strengthening the Torre di San Giacomo, in Alghero, as a first aid center is one of the objectives of the regional department of environmental protection. This morning an inspection with the director of the Marine Protected Area of Capo Caccia-Isola Piana, Mariano Mariani and the head of the regional network for the conservation of marine fauna, Elisa Mocci.
"Through a handshake," said the regional network representative, "we have committed ourselves, the regional administration, the Department of Environmental Protection and Protected Area, to redevelop what is the first aid center currently operating in the area of competence of the same Reserve Authority, committing ourselves to making it grow. We have decided to invest by proposing improvement lines for the existing spaces with an expansion and strengthening of the first aid center which, we remind you, has a very large area of competence and this is why we decided to bring here a part of the veterinary clinic that will serve us for first aid, diagnostic tests for the turtles that will be hospitalized here in order to then take them to hospitalization, recovery and release."
Following one of the moments most appreciated by the schoolchildren, in this case the second graders of the Sacred Heart Primary School of Alghero, and also by the various tourists present, namely the release of two specimens of “Caretta Caretta”. Event that is part of the broader initiative “Ceas Aperti” with which the Sardinia Region promotes the activities of the various Environmental Education Centers that open their doors to students and citizens. This time, the turtles Enza and Francesca Olimpia were returned to the sea, after being cared for by the recovery center of the Asinara Park.
In the presence of the new president of the Porto Conte Park, Emiliano Orrù, the directors of Casa Gioiosa Mariano Mariani and of the Asinara Park Vittorio Gazale, together with the commander of the barracelli Riccardo Paddeu and the leaders of the Coast Guard, with the chosen chief Joseph Tramaglini, the splendid scenery of the Tramariglio was, once again, the backdrop to the extraordinary event that saw the return to their natural habitat of the two specimens, both found, a few months ago, in difficulty in the waters of the Riviera del Corallo.
