As a blind person who lost his sight ten years ago , he continues to handle a comb and scissors and serve his loyal customers in his colorful salon in Via Gorizia in Sassari. It is much more difficult for him to walk around the city because, he explains, "the streets are rough as are the pavements, the walkways for the blind are non-existent, the acoustic traffic lights do not work." Nanni Cabras is a courageous man, full of inventiveness, capable of dragging the people who work with him towards ever new initiatives.

But if he has accepted his pathology , discovered around the age of 30 and gradually worsening despite various interventions, he does not accept the lack of attention towards people who, like him, could be made more independent with the right aids . After dark it wasn't easy because, for a while, life seemed to no longer make sense. Despondency and isolation came, but his family and friends helped him.

He joined the Italian Union of the Blind, learned to use Braille (but didn't like it), and took specific orientation courses. Today he works "guided by memory, inventiveness and imagination", sings in a choir and sews clothes. His hands are safe as he uses the delicate tools of the trade, having a chat with the customers. «I had some hesitations but I was also curious because they had told me about him - says one of these, Giuliana, during the cut - today I don't pay attention to it. I feel great and will continue to come here."
