One of the most destructive synthetic drugs has resurfaced in southern Sardinia. The substance seized by Carabinieri from the Cagliari Provincial Command during an operation conducted last night in the city center may have been "shaboo"—an extremely potent variant of methamphetamine.

Two Chinese men have been arrested : a 37-year-old unemployed man living in Prato and a 55-year-old businessman living in Quartucciu. Both are seriously suspected of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The operation began with a check at a hotel in the city center, where the officers found over 140 grams of methamphetamine in a room occupied by the two men.

Initial investigations have raised the alarm : the substance, due to its characteristics and packaging, appears to be "shaboo", a drug known for its devastating physical and psychological effects, especially widespread in Southeast Asia.

After finding the drugs, the Carabinieri located and arrested the two suspects in an Opel minivan. A search of the suspects' personal belongings and the vehicle led to an even more significant seizure: another 706 grams of methamphetamine, half a gram of cocaine, a precision scale, packaging materials, and €310 in cash , divided into small bills.

The two arrested individuals were transferred to Uta prison, where they are now at the disposal of the judicial authorities. The entire seized substance is now being examined by the Cagliari scientific investigations department, which will need to confirm its true chemical composition with technical analyses.

If the presence of “shaboo” is confirmed, it would be the first official seizure of this substance in the southern part of the island.
