Cagliari's new stadium under consideration by UEFA and FIGC

The meeting held this afternoon at the Metropolitan City headquarters to discuss the new stadium planned for the Sant'Elia neighborhood was also a productive one for the Municipality.
"We have been able to verify that the stadium project is progressing," explains City Councilor for Sport, Giuseppe Macciotta, "and after years of delays, both bureaucratic and environmental, we can say with satisfaction that in just under a year since this Council took office, the program agreement has been confirmed, the environmental process has been completed, the final project has been submitted, and soon, the financial plan will be submitted. This will allow the administration to launch the public tender, which will ultimately select a contractor, which—let's say—will not necessarily be Cagliari Calcio, and I say this to dispel a recurring myth. Cagliari Calcio is the proponent of this project financing."
But yesterday, during the City Council meeting at Palazzo Bacaredda, the issue sparked controversy: "Much ado about nothing," Macciotta observed. "The 50 million regional funding was established under the old 2023 program agreement, reiterated in 2024, and implemented midway through this year. Obviously, the distribution of resources needed to be revised in light of the new construction schedule. Therefore, there has been no reduction in resources. It's simply an adjustment of resources to the changed project completion times."
The meeting was attended by UEFA's Michele Uva, Executive Director for Social and Environmental Sustainability and official delegate to the Italian Organizing Committee for the 2032 European Championships. The FIGC represented Antonio Talarico and Giovanni Spitaleri. The Municipality represented Mayor Zedda, Councilor for Sport Macciotta, and Director Olla. Cagliari Calcio represented President Giulini, General Manager Melis, and Engineer Alessandro Gosti.
