Full church and crowd in the square this afternoon in Decimomannu for the funeral of Marco Meloni, the twenty-one year old who died following an asthma attack . The young man had felt ill last Sunday and had been transported by helicopter to the Brotzu hospital. Having fallen into a coma, he fought between life and death until Friday, when doctors declared him brain dead.
His organs were donated: his heart and kidneys were transplanted on the island, while his liver arrived in Rome, at the Bambin Gesù hospital. A difficult decision and a generous gesture that his family was able to make and face in a moment of such intense pain.
Today the heartbreaking homily of Don Andrea Lanero and the square of Santa Greca crowded with relatives, friends and fellow citizens gave him the last farewell. There was also a group of friends on motorbikes. And a banner: "Marco, stay in every heartbeat".
Marco's remains will rest in the municipal cemetery of Decimomannu where the funeral rite of burial was celebrated in the presence, here too, of many people.
