A violent brawl involving clubs and sticks broke out last night in the extraordinary reception centre in Monastir .
Two rival groups, of Algerian and Afghan nationality , clashed using various offensive objects, terrorizing the staff.
The Carabinieri of the local station intervened on the scene around 9 pm, alerted by a call to 112. The soldiers immediately restored calm and made an arrest.
One of the Algerian group's main agitators, a 25-year-old man who suffered multiple head injuries during the clash, was arrested . The young man is charged with aggravated brawling.
Ambulances from 118 also arrived on the scene, taking two other injured young men to the emergency rooms of Cagliari hospitals.
This is yet another episode of violence in a center that has now become a powder keg , overcrowded beyond capacity and with staff increasingly struggling to manage such a high number of problematic individuals.
This emergency affects the entire municipality, so much so that Mayor Paola Ugas made several requests during a meeting at the Prefecture : increased surveillance of the area, greater coordination between the agencies responsible for ensuring safety, and dedicated ARST services between the reception center and Cagliari "to allow people to reach the capital without crossing the town and reduce traffic through the municipality."
