The rat emergency in Quartu continues. Rats continue to roam undisturbed in various streets across the city, and in recent days, rodent control efforts have also affected other schools, including Brotzu High School, the secondary school on Via Tiziano, the school on Via Dei Nasturzi in Flumini, and, previously, those on Via Palestrina and Via Beethoven. In recent days, rats have also appeared on Via Vittorio Emanuele and Piazza IV Novembre, where they have even been spotted hiding behind fruit crates left on the street awaiting collection by the De Vizia school.
The problems began at the beginning of the summer, when residents of Via Boito and surrounding streets reported the presence of rats entering their homes' courtyards and even climbing onto windows and doors, preventing them from leaving. They were coming from the abandoned former nursery, now reclaimed and under construction for the construction of a police station. Unfortunately, rats are rampant, both because of the presence of garbage in the streets and because the contractors carrying out the work almost never perform pre-, post-, and during-rodent control to prevent the rats from escaping due to the noise.
