At the greengrocer's and in the pastry shop, in the fishmonger's as well as in the grocery store. And then in the bicycle shop, at the optician, at the delicatessen and even in the wine shop. In Quartucciu , shop you go to, book you find. It is called cross booking and it is the last frontier of book lending which in the city leaves - for the first time - the canonical spaces of the Sanna Sulis library to land among the shelves of the local shops . A way to combine the pleasure of shopping with that of reading, choosing a volume to read on the spot or take home.

The idea comes from Rita Atzeri del Crogiuolo , who with “Mariposa de cardu”, the social animation and promotion project born in memory of her sister Luisa, donated over 500 books from her sister's private collection to the library. «It involves the creation of an "animated book collection" , the volumes of which will partly "travel around the city", circulating in meeting places and commercial activities. Another part will enrich the municipal library's equipment for lending and consultation. This is a unique project of its kind due to the experimental nature of the initiative", comments Rita Atzeri enthusiastically.

An original idea welcomed with enthusiasm by shopkeepers. «Both my brother and I are great readers and we like the idea of "recycling" books», says Francesca Moi who has arranged some novels among jams and savory creams in the wine shop in via Le Serre, «it's nice that books circulate and reach everyone in such an original way." The curiosity is there, but perhaps many still haven't understood how it works. «Maybe not everyone knows that they can consult them or take them», adds Elena Etzi, a greengrocer in via Rosselli, «they look at them, perhaps they think they are mine and not everyone asks, a lover of reading like me, could not fail to embrace this initiative» . A little further away is Ottica Pilleri: «Here they have already borrowed two books», explains Giulia Pilleri. In the fish shop on Via Nazionale, "The Grammar of God" by Stefano Benni and other novels are available. «It's a great idea to create culture and bring people closer to reading», underlines the owner Alessia Mossa.

What better place to relax with a good book than when you're at the hairdresser? «I joined immediately because I believe that offering a type of reading different from the usual magazines is an added value. The books arrived yesterday, still no feedback, but I'm sure it's an attraction for customers", assures Francesca Dessì, hairdresser in via Mandas.
