Yet a translator was not needed, even an illiterate would have understood it. After all, it would have been enough to climb those gentle bends of olive trees and vineyards, red-hot ears of wheat and green sparkling holm oak woods, to understand that that name was no coincidence. When Giovanni Battista Tuveri, mayor, jurist and enlightened philosopher, decided to change the name of his town, he did not hesitate. He looked at the skyline and decided: Collinas. Since 1863 this village nestled at the gates of Marmilla has been the synthesis of an almost surreal landscape, designed with soft colors and maternal sinuosities. Perched on a blaze of silence and peace, this fairy-tale town dotted with Nuraghi and Giants' Tombs is a hanging garden suspended over the great plain, that of Campidano.

Arrubia crown

It stands, together with Villanovaforru, on an amphitheater of reddish basalt, until it becomes the most farsighted of Sardinia's tourist-territorial projects, which takes its name from that geological essence: "Corona Arrubia". Despite everything, however, there are those who, arriving in this archaeological-botanical inlet, thought they were in a no man's land, in a useless crossroads between the two royal icons of Eleonora d'Arborea, the castles of Sanluri and Sardara.

Slice and grind

For the new colonizers it is a mere naturalistic-environmental proscenium without art or part, to be destined without ignominy to the most violent financial speculation, the one that slices the air and grinds incentives. They didn't have the slightest problem throwing into Sardinia's "wind sewer" yet another project destined to replenish the profits of the most unscrupulous enterprise of the new millennium, the exploitation of the wind, the grazing and furious wind that falls like a slot machine on the lands of Marmilla, as in those of Barbagia, passing through the Logudoro, wearing out the olive trees of S'Ortu Mannu di Villamassargia, in the Sulcis Iglesiente.

Storm blows

Yet they should have perceived, if they had had a modicum of sensitivity, that the right wind was not blowing to welcome them with open arms. Sure, they may have had some winks, some guarantees will have been given to them, but the clear uprising of the mayors and local communities should have suggested milder advice. Instead, instead of turning away from the Marmilla, they have clearly seen to expand the wind power climb of those "collinas", to the point of daring where no one had ever dared yet. It is the very name of the project that defies common sense: «Collinas wind farm». Stamped paperwork just bureaucratically armored in ministerial sarcophagi, those dedicated to "Energy Security" and, if something is left over, to the Environment. The wording of the bureaucratic process recounts the dawn of the state exam: «Administrative verification - Documentation not available for the selected procedure».

Infinite assault

The only elements of the new assault are contained in the title page of the computer file: «Project for a plant for the production of energy from onshore wind sources with a total power of 48 MW, consisting of 8 wind turbines located in the municipality of Collinas, and related related works in the municipalities of Villanovaforru, Lunamatrona and Sanluri». Not "renewable" banners, but 70-storey iron skyscrapers, each 206 meters high, scattered "in clusters", as if the devastation should know no boundaries.

On display

The projection of the territory physically available for this massacre is all aimed at the Campidano proscenium. It is here that those eight cyclopean monsters should soar, to be "admired", day and night, from every inch of that tongue of asphalt that history has dedicated to Carlo Felice with impunity. There won't be a single meter of view that will prevent that wind "crown" from permanently disfiguring that geological décolleté that moves sinuous from Collinas to the Nuragic hinterland of Barumini, passing through Siddi and Las Plassas.

Name and surname

The new project, while waiting for the offices to reveal the details, has names and surnames imprinted on the title page of the new entry of the wind assault. The code of the accelerated procedure requested from the "Wind" Ministry is 9984, registered in the first week of July in the name of Sorgenia Renewables. Not a stranger, not a handful of adventurers. A limited liability company so to speak.

Takeover bid for Sardinia

In reality it is a real colossus that has decided to launch a takeover bid not only for wind power in Sardinia, a takeover bid for wind and landscape, passing through energy and airports. Memory brings back to the Engineer, that Carlo De Benedetti who with Sorgenia attempted the climb in grand style to renewables. He didn't succeed, breaking dreams of copious incentives and free green money, shipwrecked in a sensational financial drift of almost two billion in debt. As often happened to him, however, even in the most daring operations, he managed to place the product at the banks on duty, a good 21 of those indebted to the then publisher of Repubblica and l'Espresso.

Pandemic & business

Until the pandemic when, in the midst of austerity from Covid, the F2i financial fund, banks, foundations, Chinese sovereign funds and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, took over the energy company that once belonged to the Engineer. Together with them also the Spanish of Asterion Industrial Partners, an investment fund based in Madrid. Since then, the sights on Sardinia have become a voracious vortex, with wind power projects presented on every side of the island, with a preference for Medio Campidano. It is here, in this land dotted with wheat and artichokes, citrus groves and vineyards, that they have made their headquarters.

Eleven municipalities

It is no coincidence that the wind operation involved no less than eleven municipalities in this strip of land, marking the presentation of the projects as a blasphemous via crucis of financial greed in the pursuit of incentives and energy power. The chessboard, with the presentation of the “Collinas” project, is now complete. Sorgenia proposed the first landscape-environmental gamble in 2021 with the "Samassi-Serrenti wind farm" with 11 wind turbines for a power of 66 megawatts, also crossing the municipalities of Furtei and Sanluri. A year later he had relaunched with the "Pizzu Boi wind farm" occupying the lands of Selegas, Guamaggiore, Guasila, Segariu, Furtei and Sanluri with another 9 gigantic blades for 54 MW. Finally, in late July, the Collinas wind farm arrives , another 8 blades, for 48 Mw, with ramifications in the municipalities of Villanovaforru, Lunamatrona and Sanluri. A total of 28 shovels in a piece of land destined to be distorted in its environmental, landscape, archaeological and cultural history.

I face the territories

An affront to the Mayors, to the world of culture and music, a challenge without borders for those who don't look at anything or anyone in pursuit of the state incentive, the one that fills the pockets of financial funds and empties the future of Island. Needless to say, nothing will remain of that energy in Sardinia, in theory it is all destined to be "charged" on an electric cable to reach the shores of Sicily and Campania. The "Collinas" of Marmilla, on the other hand, destined to become Italy's wind farm.
