"To render justice, with memory and with the truth, to all the victims of the barbaric ferocity of the sinkholes and the Julian-Dalmatian exodus after World War II, forgotten for too long in an attempt to cloud their memory and remove the guilty from the judgment of history ".

These are the words of the President of the Region, Christian Solinas, on the "Day of Remembrance" addressing a thought to the thousands of victims of sinkholes, including Sardinian families.

"We do not want and cannot forget the violence suffered by so many Italians - comments Solinas - and also Sardinians, whose tragic events have been hidden, torn from the history books and denied an authentic narrative free from ideologies".

"Remembering the hatred and ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Tito's communism is a duty - he continues - Among the victims of the sinkholes there were at least 140 Sardinians, soldiers, Sulcis miners who came from Carbonia to work hard in the Istrian mines, public employees. their families that the thought of the whole regional government is moved, together with the firm condemnation of all forms of totalitarianism ".

"Today's anniversary leads us to retrace those tragic events in the hope that the memory of the past may be the first tool in our hands to convey knowledge, also and above all in the younger generations - the conclusion - contributing to the construction of a free and based on the values of tolerance, respect, solidarity, brotherhood and peace ".

IN ITALY - The Italy of remembrance and exiles opened the celebrations this morning at 9.30 with the deposition of crowns at Foiba n.149 in Monrupino; then the transfer not far away, always on the Carso, to Basovizza, for the commemoration ceremony at the Shrine of the Foiba - National Monument, where, in addition to the local authorities, the representatives of the Committee for the Martyrs of Foibe and of the Associations with deployment were welcomed of banners and medals and gonfalons. Then the rendering of honors to the Martyrs of the Foibe and the deposition of the crowns by the institutions and associations which was followed by the blessing of Msgr. Giampaolo Crepaldi, Archbishop of Trieste.

In the afternoon in the Senate a ceremony with President Sergio Mattarella and speeches by the presidents of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, and Senate, Elisabetta Casellati. To close the celebration the intervention of Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
