A massive redevelopment of the water network is planned in Sestu , where the decommissioning and replacement of 1 kilometer and 649 meters of old steel or asbestos-cement pipelines with new cast iron structures is planned.

This was established by a project prepared by Abbanoa SpA, manager in the municipality of Cagliari, and recently approved by EGAS, the Government Body of the Sector of Sardinia.

The works are primarily aimed at limiting the water losses of the network which, to date, amount to around 40% .

The new pipeline will also guarantee adequate water pressure in areas of the Municipality, such as the “Rosa” locality, where at the moment the supply is not always guaranteed . The new pipeline will then also reach the other two hydraulic districts south of the Rio Matzeu called "Constitution" and "Picasso".

The intervention is possible thanks to a larger funding of 30 million euros from the Development and Cohesion Fund FSC 2014-2020 aimed at improving the efficiency of the distribution of water for human consumption, through structural rehabilitation and functional reorganization. the distribution networks of the most critical urban centers in Sardinia.

"The municipality of Sestu is one of the 14 interventions that the Institutional Area Committee defined at the time in a Program Agreement scheme with the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of the Territory and the Sea and the Region of Sardinia", the words by Fabio Albieri , Egas president. “Let's make concrete what an intent was, that is to face the cases of greater and overt criticality in the island's territory”, the conclusion.
