" Less than ten days after its inauguration , the monument to the Folgore paratroopers has been defaced by the usual faceless vandals , motivated only by ideological hatred. The memory and honor of those who served our Nation with courage and discipline deserve respect, not cowardly insults."

Fratelli d'Italia strongly condemns the outrage to the statue installed in the Lepanto Cecchini Gardens in Alghero . The League, with councilor Michele Pais, also speaks of a vile and shameful act , "carried out by misfits out of time and history, who see in our soldiers - symbols of peace, freedom and democracy - an enemy to be defeated. The vandalism perpetrated against the Monument to the Folgore in Alghero represents an intolerable outrage to the memory of the fallen and to our entire community".

The work, commissioned by the local section of the National Association of Italian Paratroopers and created by the Alghero sculptor Mario Nieddu , depicts a paratrooper in the act of throwing a grenade, with a fallen comrade at his feet, to remember the sacrifice of the Folgore soldiers.
