For months they have been operating according to Tokyo time, turning on during the day and leaving the area in darkness after sunset: yesterday the lighthouse tower on State Road 195, at the intersection for Torre degli Ulivi and Su Spantu 2, was finally repaired. The decalibration of the clock that regulates the lighting also affected the street lamps on the avenue that leads to the two sectors of Torre degli Ulivi, rigorously aligned with the light-dark cycle of the Japanese capital.

Silvia Sorgia, deputy mayor and councilor for Public Works, explains where this public lighting mismatch comes from: "The problem has finally been solved, but it's not the first time that the systems have given us problems, the technicians explained to us how this unusual fact is linked to the malfunction of the cables caused by the work in progress at Su Loi, which interfere with the clock that regulates the switching on and off of the lights at Torre degli Ulivi. Last Christmas, because of this problem, we also had difficulty fixing the lights. The hope is that the work for the construction of the new bridge at Su Loi will finish as soon as possible, so that the lighting in that area will also be restored".

Efisio De Muru, leader of the Democratic Party in the City Council and resident of Torre degli Ulivi, highlights the issue of road safety: «The fact that the lighting was on during the day and off at night is certainly a curious fact, but it is necessary to monitor the operation of the systems because we cannot allow a delicate area like the roundabout on State Road 195, which leads to Torre degli Ulivi and Su Spantu, to remain in the dark. Citizens are worried about this situation, having unlit junctions puts the safety of motorists and pedestrians crossing on the crosswalks at risk».

Giampaolo Agri, a resident of Torre degli Ulivi, highlights the safety problem of another key point, that of Su Loi, where public lighting has been absent since the start of the demolition and reconstruction work on the Rio San Girolamo and Masone Ollastu bridges: «It's not just the darkness that's worrying, but also the fact that the asphalt of the link road built to bypass the construction site has now collapsed in several places. The work has been at a standstill for months and, despite the promises, no worker has yet been seen on that construction site».
