First admission to Olbia from the afternoon of December 31st until 5 am on January 1st, second journey of hope (to La Maddalena) with a stay in hospital from 11 am to 1 pm on January 2nd and finally on the same day, a final attempt at the Giovanni Paolo II hospital in Olbia (practically unsuccessful) from 3 pm to 8 pm.

A young patient experienced this ordeal of travel, prey to unbearable pain, in the Gallura Emergency Room.

It's one of many stories from this holiday season, with hospitals stretched to the limit and emergency medical services decimated by the unavailability of specialists (in Olbia, Tempio, Palau, Santa Teresa, and other centers). This all spilled over into the Emergency Room at the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Olbia. Patients had to wait hours to be seen and were often told that the on-call "payroll" operator couldn't care for them because they had "major codes." The doctors in the Olbia Emergency Room had to deal with extreme situations, with five simultaneous "Red Codes."

In Tempio Pausania, the Paolo Dettori Emergency Department can only take on "Codici Bianchi" (White Codes). Trade unions have demanded answers from the Local Health Authority (ASL) regarding the termination of fixed-term contracts for a significant number of healthcare workers and nurses.
