"As mayor , my hands are tied with respect to the powers of the Superintendency : if I reopened via Ponte Romano I would receive a guarantee notice the next day".
The mayor of Porto Torres, Massimo Mulas thus responds to the municipal council after yet another report on the problem of the archaeological excavations of via Ponte Romano , blocked for two years after the discovery of a majestic Roman Domus of the imperial age , decorated with a precious mosaic polychrome.
The inhabitants and traders of the area are affected by the strong inconveniences. “I wrote again today to the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage - adds the mayor - to request a meeting and get updates on the status of that construction site. It is clear that this is an important junction in the road network between the port and the center: personally I would prefer that the site be made safe and the road reopened ".
For most of the residents of the area, the protection of the archaeological discovery has turned into the umpteenth story of bureaucracy and delays that create difficulties for traffic and the passage of pedestrians. "In the event that the Superintendency goes ahead on the road to enhancement, - underlines Mulas - it will be necessary to study together with all the subjects who have the skills the most suitable solutions to ensure the best viability in the area".
