They had entered the water to reach the Isolotto d'Ogliastra, but the north-east current prevented them from returning to shore. When they failed to return, the relatives of the two tourists from Cagliari, staying at the Le Cernie campsite in Lotzorai, called the Coast Guard for help.

The alarm was raised this afternoon , and a patrol boat had to intervene to rescue the two women. Circomare personnel, coordinated by Commander Mattia Caniglia, left the port and reached the waters off the Isolotto d'Ogliastra within minutes.

Spotted among the waves, the two women were loaded aboard and brought back to shore, where their arrival was greeted with a sigh of relief by their relatives and a group of swimmers who had been anxiously following the rescue operations.
