At Mater Olbia a "first" of interventional radiology . In recent days, in fact, a young patient underwent an innovative minimally invasive endovascular treatment for a cerebral aneurysm.

As stated in the note released by the hospital, this is an operation carried out for the first time in Sardinia and which places the Mater Olbia at the forefront in the treatment of neurovascular pathologies in order to prevent cerebral hemorrhages. The operation was performed by Doctor Matteo Cappucci , head of the interventional radiology unit, with the help of Doctors Davide Coppolino and Claudio Cau and the support of the technical-nursing team.

"The aneurysm was treated with an innovative technique , thanks to the use of a latest generation technology , a flow diversion stent with X technology - explained Dr. Cappucci - which acts on the treatment of the aneurysm , favoring the reconstruction of the diseased artery reducing the risk of complications ».

The approach to neurovascular pathology stems from a relationship of full synergy and collaboration with the neurosurgery team directed by Professor Giovanni Sabatino . "An extraordinary result - underlined Dr. Rinaldi, head of the complex radiology unit - with minimally invasive endovascular procedures which now make up about 80% of treatments". This technology , says Mater Olbia , used for the first time in Sardinia, is applicable to many patients with this type of pathology .

It is foreseeable that, in the near future, this type of device will make it possible to reduce the need for systemic antiplatelet drugs, such as acetylsalicylic acid, which presents administration problems in the case of favism, a widespread disease on the island.
