Cagliari in the top 20 greenest cities in Italy. The Sardinian capital comes in 16th place and, in the ranking, Oristano's twenty-second place also stands out.

The ranking, published in the Sole 24 Ore, was drawn up by Legambiente , which released the "Urban Ecosystem" survey, now in its thirtieth edition, focused on the state of health of Italian provincial capitals. Over one hundred centers were taken into consideration.

The Sardinian capital makes a leap forward (it was 23rd in the previous report) and Oristano improves even more (which jumps to 22nd place from 41st in the previous survey).

The North-East of the country maintains its leadership: not only for Trento, which last year was second and now takes first place again , but also for the third and fourth overall performances, which come from Pordenone and Treviso respectively.

Mantua, in second place, gains eight positions and excels in the (reintroduced) parameter of limited traffic zones. Again, in the top 10 we find La Spezia, which goes from ninth to sixth place. Emilia Romagna is always well represented by Reggio (fifth) and Forlì (eighth). While, despite falling from the fifth to the seventh step, Cosenza remains the best exponent of the South.

The survey takes five parameters into consideration: Environment, Air, Water, Mobility and Waste, assigning a score to each.

Each parameter is then divided into sub-categories, from trees to pedestrian areas, from air quality to separate waste collection, through water loss, transport quality and so on.

As for the other major cities in Sardinia, Nuoro is placed in 39th place (with a clear improvement compared to 89th place in the previous survey), while Sassari stands in 80th place (losing 18 positions compared to 62nd place in 2022 ).
