As always, it depends on where you place the magnifying glass. Because if it is true that fines (for violation of the highway code) in the city reach mind-boggling figures, it is equally true that the Municipality ultimately manages to collect little more than a third of what it should.

In 2024, in fact, Palazzo Bacaredda collected just over four million three hundred thousand euros from fines (they were 4.6 million the previous year) but it inflicted a number equal to over 95 thousand for about 11 million euros. For the remaining ones, it can be deduced that they are either very late (perhaps waiting for a possibility of scrapping) or that they will never be collected.

So, traffic fines are exploding in value but for the purposes of the administration coffers (a problem for all municipalities) they remain an item from which less than is due comes in . An average of eight thousand fines per month, over 250 per day, many related to parking in parking lots reserved for residents, in the historic center but also in Poetto, in the summer. "In general, the number of fines has cost in recent years," explains Gianbattista Marotto, director of the local police. "Some violations have increased, I am thinking of violations in the ZTL, but that is because in the past the cameras were not activated while today they are," he adds.
