A day that couldn't have been more symbolic. On October 4th, the day the Catholic Church celebrates Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy, the Diocese of Lanusei welcomed a new deacon: Francesco Romano . Born in Lanusei on June 27th, 2000, and residing in Perdasdefogu, yesterday in the Church of San Pietro, Francesco crowned a vocational journey that began immediately after graduating from high school, in 2019, when he entered the Pontifical Regional Seminary.
A journey marked by precise and significant milestones: admission to Holy Orders on January 13, 2023, the institution of lector on November 18, 2023, and that of acolyte on November 9, 2024. A journey of study and faith that led him, in 2026, to earn a bachelor's degree in Theology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia. Over these years, Francis has lived the Gospel in communities, with pastoral experiences that have led him to discover the Ogliastra and Sarrabus regions: Arbatax, Villaputzu, Villagrande, Villanova Strisaili, Tertenia, and Ilbono. Faces, stories, and families who accompanied him to the altar. Now, with his ordination to the diaconate (a rite presided over by Bishop Antonello Mura), a new chapter begins. Don Francesco will exercise his ministry of the diaconate in Bari Sardo, where he will serve and make himself available to the community.
