«On the one hand, the inhabitants of the Castello district, enraged and according to them "abandoned by the various municipal councils of recent times", with the children of the Scuola Santa Caterina deprived of the panoramic terrace in front of the school, on the other hand, the tourists who take selfies in front of the carelessness . Welcome to Cagliari, in the bastion of Santa Caterina which dominates that of Saint Remy ».

The city councilors Marcello Polastri and Loredana Lai denounced the scenario - defined as "a real postcard of degradation" - urging the Truzzu council to intervene to put the area back on track.

«Since 2015 - explains Polastri - the waterproofing works have been started in the highest part of the Bastion burdened by water infiltration problems and in particular in the area of the Bastion of Santa Caterina in which years ago a large and evocative hypogeum, inside an area of a construction site that is always at a standstill".

"The hypogeum that has been discovered - echoes Lai - is a place of identity for Cagliari with the signs of a multi-millennial anthropic use: from hydraulic use to sepulchral use but nevertheless it is abandoned, even a destination for visits by the curious and disbanded, unfortunately a receptacle of dirt and moreover, with an uncertain future».

«As it stands, the students of the nearby Scuola di Santa Caterina, their parents, in short, the whole city can no longer enjoy the terrace as in the past. While the curious and tourists are prevented from safely visiting the underground hypogeum which would offer an extra attraction to enjoy Cagliari at 360 degrees», continue the two councilors, asking the administration «when and how the works will be completed on the Terrace of Santa Caterina, when will it be reopened to the public with the simultaneous enhancement of the underlying historical hypogeum?».

Furthermore, Polastri and Lai, in their question, ask for clarifications on " when will the rat extermination and disinfestation of the entire Bastione area actually and truly begin , in particular the one next to via Fossario and Scuola di Santa Caterina".
