Thirty degrees at night and 46°C during the day . Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist at ilmeteo.it, confirms the impressive weather figures of the last few days. Temperatures have risen by as much as 5-7°C compared to the climate in Italy 20 or 30 years ago.

"Climate change is a reality," Tedici explains, "and Italy's situation is increasingly similar to that of North Africa. Nights with minimum temperatures of 30°C are defined as 'Super Tropical Nights' by the World Meteorological Organization. These nights used to be recorded in Asian countries, which were muggy and tropical or equatorial; 30°C at night were normal in Africa or between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn; now, Super Tropical Nights with minimum temperatures of 30°C have also reached Italy."

" The highs above 40°C, already reached several times in Sardinia," the meteorologist continues, "were an exception that lasted at most 2-3 days in the southernmost regions and 1-2 days in central Italy (rarely). Now we are increasingly finding ourselves caught up in a North African climate, even for weeks . In the South, for example, we will continue to reach 42-45°C until Saturday: 7 days of Saharan climate without interruption."

The extreme heat is expected to end Saturday evening with the arrival of Cyclone Circe across much of Italy, including the South . Heavy showers are expected throughout Thursday, especially in the Alps and the Northwest. Weather maps then indicate a phase of widespread bad weather on Friday in the North and parts of Central Italy, followed by a drop in temperatures of up to 10 degrees Celsius and some isolated showers in the South over the weekend.
