A coup studied in the smallest details , so much so that the preparation began (at least) five months ago. In October, when the two vans used by the bandits for the assault on the armored vehicles that took place late Friday afternoon in San Vincenzo, province of Livorno, in Tuscany, were stolen. A sensational robbery, with a loot of around 4 million euros, which has a matrix from the Island: the bandits, about ten, who carried out the coup are Sardinian .
The vans were stolen on October 31st. "It's incredible that since then they haven't thought to remove the stickers that made them recognizable," commented Alessandro De Romanis, from Castelnuovo Berardenga (a hamlet of Siena), owner of the vans used in the robbery, in an interview with the newspaper "La Nazione." A theft that took place, as well as five months ago, in an area very different from that of the assault on the armored vehicles : still in Tuscany, yes, but over 100 kilometers away from San Vincenzo. "In Siena, in the Due Ponti area," De Romanis reports.
The two vans – which before the theft were used to transport horses – were then used to open and close the area of the robbery. The group, armed, acted in an area of the Variante Aurelia where the roadway was narrowed due to work in progress : another sign of how the plan was carefully studied. Over 20 gunshots were fired : there were no injuries, even if one of the criminals shot at a witness who was filming the scene .
One of the three cars used for the getaway, a Volvo SUV also stolen, was found in the countryside not far from San Vincenzo . But there is no trace of the bandits. And the investigations are increasingly directed towards Sardinia , given that the military explosive used in the assault on the two armored vehicles seems very similar to that of the million-dollar heist at the Mondialpol in Caniga in Sassari on June 24, 2024 .
