A new eruptive vent on Mount Etna opened last night in the Valle del Bove, at an estimated altitude of around 1,900 meters, near Monte Simone. Strong explosive activity continues at the Voragine Crater , producing ash emissions that are currently dispersing in a south-southeast direction. This is what monitoring by the INGV (Etna Observatory) in Catania has revealed.

The average amplitude of the volcanic tremor remains in the high range. The centroid of the sources has been located both in the area of the Voragine crater and between it and the Northeast Crater, in a depth range between 2,500 and 3,000 meters above sea level.

The eruptive activity is impacting the operations of Catania Airport, which was forced to suspend arrivals and departures yesterday. Currently, from Vincenzo Bellini Airport, monitoring of the airport site shows that only one plane took off at 6:38 a.m.: a Wizz Air Malta flight to Bologna. Five incoming flights have been canceled and two diverted: a Mistral Air flight from Brescia to Palermo and a Volotea flight from Olbia to Comiso (Ragusa).
