Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, a far-right politician, led a settler raid on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount (known to Jews as the Temple Mount) this morning, near the Al-Aqsa Mosque, accompanied by Likud MK Amit Halevi.

According to Jerusalem's Islamic Waqf Department (the organization that manages Muslim buildings in the area), at least 1,251 settlers occupied the courtyards surrounding the mosque. The settlers performed rituals, including prayers, dancing, and loud chants, which could be heard throughout the esplanade.

Around midnight, Ben-Gvir led a march of settlers through the Old City , marking what extremist Jewish groups call the anniversary of the destruction of the Temple. In May, the minister had publicly declared that "prayer and prostration are now permitted on the Temple Mount," contrary to the site's historical tradition.

Katz has vowed to strengthen Israel's sovereignty over Jerusalem, including the Temple Mount. "Israel-haters around the world continue to make decisions against us and protest, and we will strengthen our hold and sovereignty over Jerusalem, the Western Wall, and the Temple Mount forever," Katz wrote on X, sharing images of himself visiting the Wall with IDF soldiers.

The Palestinian Ministry of Religious Affairs strongly condemned the incursion, describing it as a blatant provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world, not only in Palestine.
