"Only his authority can allow patients affected by cancer to continue to benefit from care in peace with the support of specialists at the Businco hospital in Cagliari, a regional public reference point for the diagnosis of oncological diseases. In the project of the necessary restructuring interventions, it seems to us that the financial aspect has been privileged rather than that of safeguarding the rights of the most fragile and suffering segment of the population".
These are, in summary, the requests contained in an appeal addressed to the governor of Sardinia Alessandra Todde by 11 associations :
- Cittadinanzattiva, patient rights tribunal,
- Dragon Karalis Pink Team,
- Trust Cagliari,
- Metropolitan guarantor of detained persons,
- The garden of lu,
- Anyway ladies,
- Italian League Against Cancer,
- Never again alone against cancer,
- Women's health,
- Female Synergy
- Socialism rights reforms odv.
"The choice of the general and health directorates of Arnas to focus on a single project, that of demolishing and rebuilding two Operating Rooms, with completion of works and testing by June 2026 to benefit from approximately 9 million euros of the PNRR, is certainly the easiest solution for the works - it is underlined in the appeal - but it does not take into consideration any alternative that could lead to the same objective in a less traumatic way for the patients . It is not clear and transparent how it was possible that a project, born in 2021, came to an end after 3 years and at the expiry of the terms to benefit from the funding which, moreover, if the conclusion is not guaranteed on the indicated date, will have to be returned".
"Patients and families are not willing to passively accept a plan that, rather than reorganizing and modernizing Businco, seems to prelude its closure - they explain - For those who aspire to quality medical care , a long period of health emigration looms and those who do not have the means to cover the costs will have to resign themselves to the worst".
Again, the associations underline, «the proposed solutions are not satisfactory also because it has been declared impossible to have prefabricated modules of operating rooms to guarantee the continuity of interventions and treatments , without a feasibility study having been presented - the associations observe - We remain in confident waiting but we reserve every useful action for the safeguard of the reality of Businco . We support the need to promote a regional conference with health workers and patients so that the authority of the oncology department is recognized and reaffirmed».
