"The University tells me that in this period it is difficult to identify companies that can do the work: we asked for maximum speed, but they don't give us certainties on the timing". Thus the mayor of Cagliari Paolo Truzzu replied to the leader of the Democratic Party in the city council, Fabrizio Marcello, who asked for news on via Porcell: the road that connects Stampace to Castello was closed over two weeks ago due to the risk of the collapse of a wall that sold under the push of a ficus inside the courtyard of the former biological institute. Traffic has been revolutionized, but no solutions are in sight.

Today the University is trying to reassure Cagliari residents: "The growth of the plant over the years has led to a progressive push of the roots first, and then of the trunk, towards the wall which is inclined towards the road", explains Antonella Sanna, manager of the Investment Department, maintenance of the University's buildings and systems, "on the basis of recent technical opinions and due to the severe meteorological phenomena of the period (strong winds and rains), we have signaled to the authorities the intention to intervene promptly on the wall".

Times? «The specialized staff is evaluating the management methods of the current tree structure, for which the replacement with another species more compatible with the context is not excluded», continues the manager, «in parallel, the possibility of the contextual relocation will be verified of the Ficus at the Campus of the Citadel of Monserrato, where it would have favorable environmental conditions for its development while guaranteeing, at the same time, the integration of green spaces».

And on the reopening of the road, Sanna underlines that «the identification operations are nearing completion, with all the solutions to minimize the necessary technical times imposed on public administrations, of a specialized company that can guarantee the timeliness and quality of the 'intervention". Therefore, confirmed what was reported by the mayor: no certainty as to when via Porcell will be reopened to traffic.
