A new case of West Nile virus has been reported. This time, mosquitoes have bitten a citizen of Marrubiu: a man in his sixties, who is hospitalized at the San Martino Hospital in Oristano. Mayor Luca Corrias announced the infection and announced to residents that disinfection work would begin overnight, taking all necessary precautions. The Local Health Authority (ASL) has not yet confirmed that this is the seventh case of the season, but no other cases have been reported in Marrubiu, so based on the mayor's notification, there should be no doubt that this is a new case. "This was communicated on Friday afternoon," Corrias specified, "when confirmation arrived that our fellow citizen had contracted West Nile virus." The protocol was immediately activated, and the Province immediately ordered disinfection in the town, with particular attention to the area where the man infected with the virus lives. "We hope he recovers as soon as possible," Corrias concluded.

The situation remains extremely critical in the Oristano area, where six cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in just over ten days, in addition to the one in mid-May. Three people have already been discharged, while an 85-year-old man from Oristano, a 60-year-old man from Marrubiu, and a 78-year-old man from Montiferru remain hospitalized at San Martino Hospital. Unfortunately, one death has also been recorded: a 90-year-old woman from Oristano.
