«A 14-year-old boy needs help, not to be placed in a penitentiary institution , even for minors. It's not about do-goodism but about common sense. Furthermore, it would be the first time, at least in Sardinia, for a child at such a young age to be at the Quartucciu IPM." These are the words of Maria Grazia Caligaris, of the “Socialismo Diritti Riforme ODV” association, in reference to the very young man who a few days ago, in Capoterra, stabbed a 15-year-old outside school .

«I have lived most of my life in a classroom – adds Caligaris – and unfortunately I have personally experienced the growing discomfort of youth and what frustration can lead to. It surprises me that, while on the one hand we reflect and discuss the real usefulness of juvenile prison, at the first opportunity it is considered the most suitable place to provide answers to a dramatic event which perhaps resulted in an exasperated bullying relationship."

An opportunity, the serious episode, to «reflect on the needs of girls and boys, on their rights. About their fragilities and their limited hopes and prospects. On the loneliness of parents. On the need to respond using reason and prevention. We cannot think of solving the problems of the new generations with an "easy" and lapidary judgment that punishes them after having abandoned them. The hope – concludes Caligaris – is that we can identify as soon as possible a community capable of offering this boy today and his injured companion tomorrow, as soon as he is able, what they both need so that they can find an answer to their Why".
