«The European Union's feared 20% cuts to Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) funding are now a dramatic certainty».

The alarm was raised by regional councilor Gianluigi Rubiu of the Brothers of Italy party , who emphasized that "the numbers included in the European Parliament's Multiannual Financial Framework represent a direct attack on the agricultural world and, in particular, on regions like Sardinia, where agriculture is not just an economic sector, but a fundamental part of the identity and social stability of inland territories."

For Rubiu, "this is a foolish and profoundly flawed decision : it would mean depriving Italian and Sardinian farmers of billions of euros, depriving them of vital tools such as direct payments, support for natural disasters, rural development, and business modernization. This carries the real risk of paralyzing thousands of businesses and further depopulating our island's countryside."
For Sardinian farms, the estimated loss is €70 million. "An unexpected and illogical cut in resources," continues Rubio, who believes "the future of agriculture in Sardinia will be inevitably ruined. Investing in agriculture will become impossible for our young people."
"We are facing," concludes the FdI councilor, "a very serious blow to our agriculture. It is unacceptable that, amidst general silence, we are considering sinking a sector already battered by market crises, rising costs, and climate disasters."
Then the appeal to the institutions: "We need a strong stance from the Government and the Sardinia Region to defend the CAP , agricultural funds, and the dignity of our farmers. Europe cannot unload the consequences of its strategic failures onto rural areas."
