Six municipalities issued fines totaling €10.7 million. This is a huge boon for Sardinia's six largest municipalities, which generate a significant amount of revenue from traffic violations every year. And this unwilling revenue from motorists and motorcyclists is increasing year after year: the nearly €11 million increase collected by the six municipalities in 2024 represents an average increase of 8.6 percent compared to 2023.

So, while the state continually cuts so-called "transfers"—that is, money—to local governments, the latter make do as best they can. Especially with speed cameras, even though the bonanza has been suspended because so many are deactivated .

It is Adiconsum Sardegna, the association for the protection of consumers, that is doing the math for our most important municipalities and calculating that profit of 10.7 million euros in favour of the municipalities themselves , considering that these are fines imposed by the local police.
