The works, concluded shortly after another collapse, will last a few weeksPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The work to secure the road had just finished and the sinkhole on the Pedemontana had been closed. However, due to the latest rains, between kilometer 21 and 22 of Siliqua, not far from the last collapse, the asphalt gave way again. Result: the road was closed, history repeats itself.
This time too, according to an initial reconstruction, it was a landslide caused by the steel pipe that runs under the stretch of road. "It couldn't handle the passage of heavy vehicles," explains Eugenio Lai, administrator of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari . As had happened previously, "this is an emergency intervention, which does not resolve the situation. The pipe needs to be replaced and we are working to find the funds necessary to resolve the underlying problem." For the moment, we are proceeding with a "spot" construction site worth around 100 thousand euros.
With the arterial road closed, motorists will have to use secondary roads. "At first there was the idea of having cars travel on a single lane," Lai continues, "so as not to have to change the traffic flow. But the road conditions made a total closure necessary." It is difficult to predict, at this time, the exact duration of the construction site. "The estimated times are a few weeks. The Pedemontana is a strategic artery for many people, who need to move around, but this must be done safely. We invite everyone to pay attention."
