Even in Sardinia, incidents of fraud and deception are, unfortunately, the order of the day. A phenomenon that raises alarm and that sees the police in the field every day, not only in investigations and repression, but also in prevention.

MEETINGS – In recent months, the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Cagliari has strengthened its commitment to protecting the most vulnerable segments of the population, with particular attention to the elderly.

Through a wide series of meetings and information activities organized throughout the province, the Arma has in fact promoted the dissemination of useful tools to recognize and counter fraud attempts, an increasingly widespread and constantly evolving phenomenon.

The initiative involved the Station Commanders, who operated in various municipalities of the province with meetings dedicated to raising awareness among citizens.

THE “TECHNIQUES” – During these meetings, the main techniques used by scammers were illustrated, including scams perpetrated by false operators of service companies who show up at home under the pretext of technical checks, deceptive phone calls from self-styled bank or postal officials who attempt to steal personal data and scams carried out by individuals who pass themselves off as members of the Police . Particular attention was also paid to digital fraud, such as phishing and catfishing, phenomena in strong growth that affect victims through the fraudulent use of e-mail, social networks and dating sites.

ADVICE – The Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Cagliari reminds citizens of some useful advice to protect themselves from these scams. It is essential to be wary of strangers who show up at home without warning, avoid providing personal or banking information by phone or email and pay attention to requests for money in apparently urgent situations. In case of doubt, it is always advisable to contact a family member or contact the Carabinieri directly, who remain available to provide support and useful information.

The invitation to everyone is to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious incidents, thus contributing to strengthening the community's prevention and protection system.

THE 4 GOLDEN RULES – The Carabinieri reminds us of some fundamental precautions to protect ourselves from scams. There are four, namely:

  1. Don't open the door to strangers: No agency sends operators without notice to check your home. If in doubt, contact the agency's official number directly or call 112.
  2. Never give out personal information over the phone or online: No bank or post office asks for sensitive information over the phone or by email.
  3. Be wary of overly advantageous offers or urgent requests for money: Scammers often exploit psychological pressure to make you take impulsive actions.
  4. If you have any doubts, ask a family member or the Carabinieri for help: It is always better to check before acting.
